Job Hunt

About a month and a half ago, the head pastor at our church met with Joel and told him his position at church was being eliminated. The church is starting to become affected by the recession and they are making big budget cuts. Joel was hired when the church was growing about 2 years ago. They wanted him to create some new ministry areas, focusing on young adults. Since Joel's position isn't "necessary," and there are 3 full time staff members in adult ministires...Joel was the one put on the cutting block. Our pastor was really upset over it all, telling Joel what a fabulous job he has done, and has added a fresh approach to how the church does things...it was the first time he has had to let someone go when there wasn't an integrity issue. He has given Joel 90 days to look for a new job before he has to leave.

Joel and I feel a peace, but don't really know what is next. Joel doesn't want to work in a big law firm anymore, and he isn't sure he wants to work in a church again, either. He's been having a lot of networking lunches and putting his feelers out...so far no big leads.

Since I've been so busy focusing on being the best mommy to Camille, I haven't really had time to think about this. I don't want to dwell on the negative either...like what do we do if Joel doesn't find a job in a month and a half? What about health insurance? What if we are needing to buy formula? Do we look to move somewhere else?

Joel is falling back some on his small practice he has out of the home....Thorp Law LLC where he does estate planning (wills and trusts) at a very affordable rate for people. He doesn't want this to be his full time job, though. For now, he is increasing his clientele and working more evenings and weekends on law to bring in some money.

So, if you know anyone who lives in Indiana and needs a will done, Joel is the guy! No one else offers better service and a better price than Joel. You can have them email him at jthorp@thorplaw.com

We could use your prayers over this, too!

  1. Does he do wills for people outside of Indiana? We'll be praying for you guys. One nice thing about having a baby in the US is they are (for the most part) taken care of. There are programs like WIC and FAMIS that will provide any food needs and health insurance for sweet Camille. I know it won't come to that but at least you can rest assure that Camille will be taken care of.
